v0.2 available now!
Golemancer » Devlog
After about a month of work, I'm glad to announce... well, I'm sure you've read the title already.
This update features several new mechanics, an overhaul to the way turns play out, five new golems, six new enemies, and some other changes too! A full changelog can be seen below... though, I wouldn't want to spoil it too much.
Content
- 5 new golems
- 1 new skill (not counting boss-exclusive skills)
- 3 new standard enemies
- 2 new bosses, plus 2 "boss minion" enemies
- These bosses may appear instead of the Rat King at the end of the first area
- New "trinket" system, currently featuring 9 trinkets
- Blast Barrel (new object that appears scattered around the board)
Gameplay and Balance Changes
- Each unit can now use all of its skills in one turn, instead of just one
- See this devlog for the thought process behind this
- Consequently, you can now have multiple copies of the same skill on one golem
- Path generation has been reworked (see this devlog for details)
- Dash and Ram now work in eight directions instead of four
- Dash will now only let you select empty tiles, to prevent accidental wasted turns
- Buffed the health of most enemies
- The all-skills-per-turn change made it too easy to oneshot enemies, so making them tougher adds more strategy as well as some much-needed difficulty
- Buffed Rat King's Rally (now gives 2 health instead of 1)
- Nerfed Viper (4 attack -> 3 attack)
- Nerfed Volt (5 health / 4 attack -> 4 health / 3 attack)
- Nerfed Overclock (now only targets adjacent units)
- Tweaked enemy spawning algorithm
- Enemies are now less likely to use AoE skills (e.g. Twister) that would hit their teammates
- When choosing a new skill or golem, it is no longer possible for the same option to appear twice at once
- Added keyboard shortcuts in battle (E = End Turn, number keys = select skills)
- The game will warn you in the tutorial battle if you end your turn without doing anything (I saw a few playtesters do this in confusion)
- If you lose in the tutorial battle, you will have to do it again in your next run
Bugfixes
When I posted v0.1, I actually thought it was pretty much bug-free!
...yeah, I was wrong.
- Fixed issue where tooltips would get stuck on screen if they were visible while changing rooms
- Fixed issue where a tutorial popup would be briefly visible at the start of every battle
- Fixed BATTLE WON / DEFEAT... banners sometimes flickering when appearing
- Fixed issue where, if you lost a run, the BATTLE WON text would be replaced with DEFEAT... until you restarted the game (only a visual bug)
You can play the update on the main game page here. Please let me know what you thought of it by leaving a comment! I'll keep working on the game and posting more devlogs, so follow me if you want to get notified about those too!
